Obituary for Shirley E. Lans We are here to celebrate the life of a very special person, Shirley Edura Vanterpool-Lans. She was a caring devoted and loving woman, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, cousin and friend. Shirley Edura Vanterpool-Lans was born March 28, 1941 on the beautiful island of St. Thomas in the United States Virgin Islands to Agatha Callwood-Vanterpool of Jost-Van-Dyke and Carl Evert Vanterpool of Tortola, British Virgin Islands (both deceased).

She was the fifth child of this union. She grew up in a close-knit family and completed her early education in St. Thomas. She met the love of her life, Mr. Liston Lans, and they married in July of 1961 in St. Thomas – this marriage lasted 57 years.

Out of this union, three sons were produced, Perry, Larry and Terry Lans. Shortly thereafter, Liston relocated to New York City and in December 1961 was joined by Shirley and the boys, where she lived until her passing. In 1972 Shirley and Liston adopted their daughter Rhonda Lans from a baby and also Myrlande Zamor.

Shirley had a strong and dominant personality and at times was funny and made you laugh. About five years ago, Shirley started to experience health challenges. On Wednesday October 24, 2018 she was committed to Hospice Care.

She started telling her family that she was ready to go home and pointed towards the sky. Shirley Edura Vanterpool-Lans, affectionately called “Poopie” by her husband, has fought the good fight. We love you dearly and you will truly be missed.

Shirley loved the Lord and dedicated her life in her later years to him. She was continuously praising and thanking God for his mercies and his grace. Shirley peacefully passed over to the other side on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, around 9:00 a.m., with her loving family by her side.

God happily welcomed her home. She leaves behind to cherish her precious memories husband, Liston; three sons, Perry, Larry, Terry; two daughters, Rhonda and Myrlande Zamor; four grandchildren Leonard, Lamonte, Daniel and Elizabeth Lans and a host of nieces, nephews too numerous to mention.
