Obituary for Mrs. Shirley Wikman Lamson Shirley Pauline Wikman Lamson age 88 years of Gibbstown passed away peacefully in her home with her family by her side on Friday, August 31, 2018. Shirley was born and raised in Woburn, MA and was a 1947 graduate of Woburn High School. An avid skier she moved in the mid-1950s with several friends to Denver, Colorado where she met her future husband while roller skating.
They married on April 4, 1959 and she returned home to the Woburn area to live with her mother while her husband was stationed in Thule, Greenland. In 1961 they moved to Gibbstown where they lived until her passing. Shirley, an accomplished organist, played the organ for First Baptist Church in Woodbury and later Southwood Baptist Church for many years.
While she was raising her three children, she was active in the Gibbstown P.T.A. and the Gibbstown Little League. She could often be found working the concession stand in support of Little League and her children. Shirley worked for 10 years as a bookkeeper for Ray O’Neil Buick in Woodbury.
She attended Hardingville Bible Church, and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Gibbstown Volunteer Fire Company and also delivered meals for Meals on Wheels. Mrs. Lamson enjoyed knitting and made each of her six grandchildren an afghan. She also enjoyed sewing and traveling to visit her children and grandchildren at each of their homes across the country.
Shirley had the opportunity to visit both Israel and Finland (the home of her parents). She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Paul Lamson of Gibbstown; her children, Pam and Gerald Lehman of Dayton, VA; Allen and Carolyn Lamson of Springfield, VA; and Bruce and Karen Lamson of Lincoln University, PA. She was blessed with six grandchildren; Seth and Ali Lehman, Kyle Lamson, Meghan Lamson, Connor Lamson, Brenna Lamson and her great granddaughter, Sophie Lehman.
She is survived her sister, Helen and David Keniston of Rumney, NH. Mrs. Lamson was predeceased by her grandson, Elias Lehman; her brothers, Ernie and Herbert and her sister, Ruth. The family would also like to thank; Julie Studioso, Maggie Cassilis and Rosemarie Newton for the loving care they provided Shirley in her later years.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday September 8, 2018 in the McBride – Foley Funeral Home, 228 W. Broad St., Paulsboro. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Saturday morning after 10:00 AM until service time. Mrs. Lamson’s remains will be interned in a private ceremony at the Gloucester County Veterans Cemetery, Monroe Twp.
