Obituary for Sister Phyllis Anne Nolan Sister Phyllis (Phyllis Anne) Nolan died at 7:30 p.m. on October 9, 2018 at Seton Residence in Evansville, Indiana. Sister Phyllis was born on June 13, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois and was one of two children of Frank Michael and Anne Loretta (Connors) Nolan. Sister graduated from Immaculate High School in Chicago in 1953 and then entered the Daughters of Charity in St. Louis, Missouri.

After initial formation, Sister Phyllis was sent to serve as a teacher at St. Catherine Laboure School, St. Louis (1955-57), St. Theresa School in Carson City, Nevada (1957-58) and St. Vincent School, Perryville, Missouri (1958-63). Sister received a BA in English from Marillac College in St. Louis, Missouri and an MA in Religious Education from Fordham University in Bronx, New York. In 1963, she was sent to Immaculate Conception Academy in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico as a secondary teacher until 1969 when she went to El Carmen Mission in San Antonio, Texas to serve as Parish Religious Education Coordinator.

From 1970 to 1979, she finished her graduate studies, served as a teacher in Perryville, Missouri (1971-73) and continued her ministry at El Carmen in San Antonio (1974-79). Sister was then sent to the Province of Bolivia for mission work in catechetical and pastoral ministry from 1979 to 2000. After returning to the United States, Sister Phyllis served as a Pastoral Associate at St. Francis Xavier Cabrini Parish in Pharr, Texas (2000-02) and at St. John the Baptist Parish in Hot Springs, Arkansas (2003-06) and then as Legal Assistant, ESL teacher and Advocate for Unaccompanied Minors at Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center in El Paso, Texas (2006-14).

In 2014 Sister came to Seton Residence to begin the Ministry of Prayer until the time of her death. A Wake Service will be held on Friday, October 12, at 9:30 a.m. in the Seton Residence Chapel and the Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Sister Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Dolores Perenick, and she is survived by many cousins, her Sisters in Community and many friends.
