Obituary for Lawrence Gerard Werner Lawrence Gerard Werner, 59, of Evansville, passed away Saturday, October 6, 2018 at St. Vincent Hospital surrounded by his children. Larry was born January 14, 1959 in Evansville, IN to the late Arthur and Mildred (Schaad) Werner. He was the fourteenth of fifteen children.
Larry attended Mater Dei High School, where he was an outstanding running back and outside linebacker for the football team, as well as a successful student. Larry began dating the love of his life and future wife, Terri (Helmerich) Werner, when he was just 15 years old and she 14. Terri was the most important person throughout Larry’s life and he knew this at a very young age.
They were married in 1977 and their wonderful and loving marriage produced five children and a very beautiful and loving home life. Larry had a very strong love of the Lord and a deep Catholic faith. Although Larry’s family was his number one love, he also enjoyed many hobbies as well as dedicating 39 years to the United States Postal Service.
Larry’s hobbies included a love of trains, Notre Dame football, the Chicago Cubs, Dallas Cowboys and playing the slots at the casino. After the unexpected passing of his wife of almost 40 years, Larry dedicated the last year of his life honoring her legacy. He continued to fight his cancer so he could give is children and grandchildren an amazing year filled with great memories, visits, gifts and trips.
One aspect of his life that he rarely spoke of, but became must more apparent near the end was his generous giving to numerous charitable organizations that made a positive impact on other people’s lives. Surviving Larry are two daughters, Kerri (Ryan) Schenk of Mason, OH and Kassi (William) Weis of Evansville; three sons, Larry (Kimberly) Werner, Jr. of Gallatin, TN, Jeff (Cassie) Werner of Mason, OH and Bryce (Beth) Werner of Pacific, MO; eleven grandchildren, Nathan, Audrey, Emma, Nash, Aspen, LGIII, Liam, Amelia, Nolan, Annabelle and Penelope; two sisters, Mary (Bill) Conaster and Susan (Mark) Best and twelve brothers, Art (Mary Jo) Werner, Jim Werner, Vince (Judy) Werner, Michael Werner, David (Christine) Werner, Terry (Leah) Werner, Dan (Cindy) Werner, Chris (Sharon) Werner, Mark (Debbie) Werner, Tim Werner, Joseph Werner and Leonard Werner. In addition to his wife and parents, Larry was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Shirley and Donald Helmerich.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Rev. Theodore Tempel officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 until 7:00 PM on Tuesday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W.
