Obituary for Sr. Frances Therese Donnelly SNDdeN Sister Frances Thérèse Donnelly, 93 years old and a Sister of Notre Dame de Namur for 75 years, died on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Mount Notre Dame Health Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. In her years of ministry as a Sister of Notre Dame she served as a Spiritual Director, Counselor and Therapist, Campus Ministry Chaplain, elementary and high school teacher, school principal and retreat center director. She spent 45 years of her ministry in the Philadelphia –Wilmington area.
In the Philadelphia area she taught at St. Bernadette’s, Drexel Hill and served as Superior of the Community while she studied at Villanova University. From 1965-1969 she taught at Notre Dame High School, Moylan, Pennsylvania and from 1970-1971 as its guidance counselor. She then spent six years as a counselor and therapist, first at Saint Gabriel Hall, Phoenixville and then at De La Salle Vocational School.
For six years, from 1977-1983, she served as a Chaplain and Campus Minister at the Newman Center at Temple University. In the Wilmington area she spent ten years in Retreat ministry, including five years as Co-Director at the Benedictines at Innisfail Retreat Center in Hockessin. During her retirement years beginning in 2000, she volunteered at the Ministry of Caring, Child Care Center, at the Birth Center, Women’s Wellness Center, and at the Opera House in Wilmington.
In addition to her years in the Philadelphia-Wilmington area, Sister Frances Thérèse taught at schools conducted by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in Brooklyn, NY, Hyattsville, MD, Ilchester, MD and Washington, DC. She received her BS in Education from Trinity College (now Trinity Washington University) in 1961, an MA in Counseling from Villanova University in 1970 and an MA in Creation- Centered Spirituality from Holy Names College in 1984. She is predeceased by her parents Clara E. Lynch and Timothy Donnelly of Philadelphia, is the last of 10 siblings and is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Donnelly of King of Prussia, a niece, Irene Coffey of Havertown, Pennsylvania, other nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
Funeral arrangements are by Williams Lombardo, Clifton Heights, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, August 31, 2018 at Annunciation Church, 401 Brookline Blvd. , Havertown, PA, viewing at 10:00 AM and Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 AM followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, PA.
