Obituary for Sr.MSGT William L. Stokes USAF (ret) Sr.MSGT, William L. Stokes, 85, of Summerville, husband of Deborah L. Stokes, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at his residence. Family and friends are invited to attend William’s visitation on Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 12 until hour of service at James A. Dyal Funeral Home. Funeral service will begin at 1 o’clock.

Burial will follow at Dorchester Memory Gardens. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75231. William was born on November 18, 1932 in Ayden, NC, son of the late Roy and Bessie Stokes.

He Served in the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment Co. A (The Old Guard) from 1951- 1953. He was a Sentinel at The Tomb of The Unknown Soldier. Now, The Tomb of The Unknowns.

He Later joined The USAF and Served 23 yrs. He is a Vietnam Veteran. He received Two( 2) Meritorious Service Medals along with numerous Commendations and achieved the rank of SrMsgt.

He was a Patriot and a true American Hero. He has been a member of the Summerville community for 30 yrs. He will be missed by many.

He was our Dad and, more importantly, the true measure against whom I judge ALL other men. We Loved Him. Survivors including his wife of 34 years Deborah are: two sons: William L. Stokes, Jr. of Flagler Beach, FL, John R. Stokes of Tampa FL; one daughter: Lea A. Stokes of Flagler Beach, FL; two step daughters: Charalene Perez and Denise Perez both of Summerville; one brother: James Stokes of Lagrange of NC; and one sister: Betty Waston of Winterville, NC.
