Stephen M. Berg, 68, of Rock Island, died Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at his home after a long courageous battle with cancer. Services will be 10 am Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Visitation will be Sunday from 1-3 pm at the funeral home.

The family encourages everyone to wear their favorite sports attire in honor of Stephen. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be presented. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials in care of the Berg family so they may help the less fortunate around the holidays.

Stephen was born in Milan, Ill. on December 18, 1949, a son of Norman R. and Betty J. Hall Berg. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

He married Dorothy Boddie on April 21, 1991 in Las Vegas, NV. Stephen worked as an electrician for 35 years at John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline. Stephen and Dorothy enjoyed helping the less fortunate, especially around the holidays.

They loved traveling and camping with their best friends, Ken and Debbie Wallingford. Stephen was an avid Chicago Bears fan and much to the dismay of Dorothy, an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Dorothy Berg, Rock Island; children, Amanda (Kevin) Greer, Davenport, Kristy (Barry) Peiffer, Davenport, Stephanie (Brandon) Ross, Davenport, Stephen Berg, Minneapolis, Minn.

and Shane J. Bendict, Rock Island; 11 grandchildren; mother, Betty J. Berg; and siblings, David (Candice) Berg, New York, Kevin J. Berg, Rock Island, Martin W. Berg, Rock Island and Kristine M. (Jim) Crouch, Glendale, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his father, daughter, Jessica M. Beinke, sister, Diane Berg and brother, Robbie Berg.
