Obituary of Stephen Gates Stephen J. Gates 1928 – 2018 Whitesboro Stephen J. Gates, 89, a lifelong area resident passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at the Pines of Utica. He was born in Utica on November 21, 1928 the son of Stephen and Rose Smalley and received his education in local schools. For many years Stephen was married to the former Jane Rondeau.

Stephen owned and operated Gates Electric for many years until his retirement. His survivors include his step-daughter, Diane Schreiber of Cold Brook, and three step sons and their spouse; David and Liddia Rondeau, of Rome, Doug and Debbie Rondeau, of Whitesboro and Danny and Sue Rondeau of NH. Also surviving are several step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Jack Clancy. Realities and friend are invited to attend his funeral services which will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Kowalczyk Funeral Home, 284 Main St., New York Mills. Those who wish may call on Sunday from 2 – 4 p.m. Burial will take place in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Hinckley.
