Steven James Cooper After a long series of illnesses, Steven James Cooper, of Ogden, Utah, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2018, two days before his sixty-second birthday. Steve was born in Akron, Ohio, and grew up in Tallmadge, Ohio, with his parents, Jack and Flo Cooper, and his five siblings. In his youth, Steve was active in scouting, enjoyed tinkering–which really means taking things apart–and loved working as a lifeguard at Maca Park.

He graduated from Tallmadge High School in 1974. Right after high school, during the end of the Viet Nam era, he served four years in the U.S. Air Force as a Sergeant (E-4) where he was awarded the Air Force Good Conduct Ribbon working mostly in Germany as a Radio Relay Equipment Repairman. After serving in the Air Force, Steve moved to Utah and worked 32 years as a communications technician for AT&T until his retirement in 2011.

A long uber fan of online gaming, Steve also worked until 2012 as an administrator with GameBattles.com, an online competitive gaming site. Steve was dearly loved by, and loved, his family. There was never a time that he visited home (Ohio) after moving away where he did not help members of his family with everything from installing phones to fixing their computers and repairing their air conditioning.

He was a multi-talented, selfless softy who was generous with his time and willing to help anyone with anything at any time. His loving nature, patient wisdom, honesty, integrity, and dear friendship will truly be missed–and never forgotten. For those who thought Steve did not have children, they should have seen him with his dogs for whom he had boundless affection.

He truly loved Sammy, Penny, Daisy, Bridget, and Lucy. Steve was preceded in death by his father Jack and his brother, Rick Cooper. Steve is survived by his husband Jeff, his mother Florence (Tallmadge, Ohio) his brothers Mike Cooper (Akron, Ohio), Don Cooper (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio), Doug Cooper (North Canton, Ohio), his beloved sister, Cathy Cooper (North Canton, Ohio), and his very dear friend Randy Devereaux.

No services are planned but friends and family are encouraged to leave memories on this web site. The family would like to especially thank Physicians Assistant Eric Johnson and Dr. Harry Senekjian for the outstanding and loving care provided to Steve when he needed it the most. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that memorials be made to your favorite charity.
