Steven “Steve” Knapp, age 64, joined his father and brother in eternal life on December 14, 2018. He was born to Marcella and the late Bernard Knapp, Jr. in Clintonville. Steve attended St. Martins Lutheran School, and Clintonville High School.

In 1972, he joined the army and was stationed in Germany where he met his future wife, Karola Luftner. They were married on September 24, 1975 in Florstadt, Germany. They divorced in 1988.

Steve lived in Germany for 18 years after being discharged from service. He learned the German language there, and he worked for UPS. When Steve’s father was diagnosed with cancer, Steve came back home to spend time with him before he passed.

He moved to Waupaca and was employed at the Waupaca Foundry; later he worked for the public school system in Waupaca. Steve and Karola have two grown sons, Christopher and Jean. Christopher and Jean, along with their families have been to Waupaca to visit with their father in recent years.

Steve greatly missed his sons and grandchildren in Germany, and he was looking forward to visiting them. Steve was happiest when he had a fishing pole in his hand. He lived and breathed fishing and enjoyed it with his buddy, Doug.

Fishing was his life. He was going to sell his boat, but decided he still wanted to use it this summer. Steve and his mom would go up north to Post Lake where they would fish all day in his father’s boat.

He just could not get the hang of filleting fish at that time! However, he did improve on that though! Steve was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Knapp, Jr.; his infant brother, David; his paternal grandparents, Bernard Knapp, Sr. and Caroline Knapp; his maternal grandparents, William and Ortelia Pieper; his cousin, Dennis Connell, and his uncle, Richard Connell.

He is survived by his brother, Donn (Ann) of Clintonville; his mother, Marcella of Appleton; his sister, Marcia Woods of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee; his sons, Christopher (Andreja) and Jean, and his three grandchildren, Justin, Colin, and Amy. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. A memorial service will take place at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 5, at St. Rose Catholic Church, 27 7th St., Clintonville.

Friends may visit at the church on that Saturday from 9:30 am until the time of service. Inurnment will take place at King Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
