26, 1942, to Frank and Helen Ehlinger in Springfield, Ohio, and moved to California after high school where he began his career and family life, before returning to Ohio in 1978, and then to Hurst in 1986. Bear spent his career in the aerospace and defense industries. He helped in the design and build of the Saturn rocket, space shuttle cockpit, as well as the B1 stealth bomber.

Aside from his professional and family life, Bear lived a life of community service, by serving on the board of the United Way and Junior Achievement for a number of years, serving the performing arts communities wherever he resided, and serving as an active member of his church community. He had an immense love of reading, enjoyed playing sudoku and doing the New York Times crossword puzzles in pen. In his younger years, he loved bowling and roller skating.

He met his wife, Sandy at a skating rink in Southern California. They married on April 27, 1963 and had one son, Steven Michael Ehlinger II, born Sept. 10, 1964.

Bear was a very wise and knowledgeable man, found learning fun and was always open to new things. He never met a stranger and will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Survivors: Bear (Steven) is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandra Gail Ehlinger; son, Steven M. Ehlinger II (53); grandsons, Reese Michael Ehlinger (18) and Luc Ryan Ehlinger (15); and partner of 32 years, Eric Sterling.
