Steven’s Obituary Steven Michael Nelson, age 67, passed away at his home in Lake Crystal, MN on February 8, 2019. He was born on May 7, 1951 in St. James, MN to Raymond and Lillian Nelson. Steve graduated from North St. Paul High School in 1970.

He served in the U.S. Army for two years and was stationed in Germany. Steve was a semi driver and hauled grain for several years before working for American Linen for 23 years. On April 24, 1982 Steve and Claire McDonnell got married; together they had three children.

Steve was a skilled mechanic and enjoyed working on vehicles and building hot rods. He had great interest in WWII due to his father’s military service. He also enjoyed wood working and putting together model cars.

Steve had a very big heart and was always willing to help others, or lend an ear. He will be missed by many. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and Raymond Nelson; and brothers, Eugene and Dennis Nelson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Claire; daughters, Melissa, Laura (Jay) Bayer; son, Jeffrey; one granddaughter, many nieces and nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at 12 p.m. at St. Joseph the Worker in Mankato, MN. Visitation will be held one hour before service.

A private burial will be held at Fort Snelling at a later date. Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
