Susan Hagerman June 04, 1964 – March 25, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts Sign Guestbook| View Guestbook Entries| Send Sympathy Card Susan was born June 4 1964, to Patricia and Lindy Tabor in Bluefield, West Virginia. She graduated from Elon University in 1985 where she made many lifelong friends in the Sigma sorority. In 1987 she married Steve Hagerman.
They have two children Alec and Rachel. Susan worked at many jobs but the one she loved the most was raising her children. Her personality can definitely be seen in both kids.
Susan embraced motherhood and was extremely active in her children’s lives. She was always on the road taking the kids to all their school and sporting events. She was at every game or competition and you could see her competitive nature in both of the children.
Susan was a highly creative person, and she expressed that creativity in everything she did. She was the photographer at every event and made sure everyone was included and got copies of the pictures. Her home was filled with pictures of family and friends.
The picture files on her computer were huge but she would often open them and reminisce about the family or friend event she captured. Those pictures filled her with joy and sharing them was what she enjoyed most. Susan could have been an interior decorator.
She could find that perfect piece for every nook and cranny in her home. Every holiday was a time to decorate her home and transform it into masterpiece. Being social chair in her sorority served her well all her life.
Susan was a huge animal lover. She always had at least two dogs but would have loved to have had many more. Anytime there was an animal close by you could see her gravitate right over to pet them and start a conversation.
Today I am sure she is surrounded by all of her furry friends that have gone before her. She spent as many days as possible at Claytor Lake. That was her happy place especially after she retired.
Boat rides were her favorite and never missed an opportunity go on a ride to the dam. This was also a place she loved to have family and friends over to visit and host fun events. Susan also was able to travel.
After every one of the trips a scrapbook was done, and some were even finished. If you were able to spend any time with her you would know there was so much more to Susan. She was such a generous person with a lot of love to give.
Susan fought her cancer long and hard but always kept a positive attitude even with the depth of her illness. She found strength in her family and friends. She was always concerned about how her illness affected others and was grateful for every minute she had with her loved ones.
Likewise, we are grateful for every minute she was in our lives. She is looking down on us today rooting us along to keep going and smile. She will never be far from our thoughts or memories.
Susan touched many hearts, and she leaves behind many friends and family who will mourn and miss her dearly. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3pm , on Thursday March 28, 2019 at the Chesterfield Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 14301 Ashbrook Pkwy where services will follow at 3pm. She would ask in lieu of flowers to consider donating to her favorite charity – Promises Animal Rescue.
