Obituary for Susan Terre King Susan Terre King (nee Allison) went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 14, 2018 surrounded by her family at her home in Ono, PA. Susan was born on August 9, 1953. She graduated from Northern Lebanon High School with the Class of ’71 and went on to earn a degree in Elementary Education from Shippensburg University.
Her teaching career took her to Palmyra Schools, Northern Lebanon Schools, Bright Beginnings, and Blue Mountain Christian School where she became its first teacher. During the years that she took a break from teaching to raise her daughters, Susan was instrumental in launching Ono Preschool, and a Ladies’ Sharing Group at her church. She then helped to start Crystal Christian Child Care in Lebanon where she served as the director.
She retired from teaching in 2009 to dedicate her time to being a full-time Grammy. Through the years Susan touched many young lives in public and private education with her patient, caring ways, as she imparted her passion for literacy and the arts. Susan was a beloved Sunday school teacher, a prayer warrior for those in need, an accomplished pianist and organist at Ono United Methodist Church.
Her family and friends will always remember her sweet disposition and kindness, her warm smile that brought sunshine to any room, and words of encouragement. Her soul was deeply moved by the beauty of the written word, music, art, and nature. She found joy in simple things, like chocolate with nuts, HGTV, a trip to the library or bookstore, the beach, campfires, and conversations with friends.
Adventures with her daughters or shopping with her mother or granddaughter and spending time with her family brought her special joy. Susan made her mark on the world through the way she loved with quiet acts of service and standing up for those in need of justice. Susan married the love of her life Stephen M. King in 1976 and together they shared almost 42 years of marriage.
This union of warmth and faithfulness is an example of what it means to support one another through great happiness, immense heartache, and the mundanities of everyday life. She is survived by her husband; three grateful daughters – Abigail Susan, Allison Stephanie, and Amanda Sharon and son-in-law Sean Murry; granddaughter, Miya Grace Broughton; her parents, Alfred C. and Dorothy (Anspach) Allison; brother John Allison and wife Wendy Weyant; sister Sally Allison; mother-in-law Evelyn King; brothers-in-law Lin Norris and Eric King and wife Keshni; sisters-in-law Marica Cherry and husband Ron, and Janet King; and many, many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. Susan was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Alfred C. and Alma Allison; her maternal grandparents Clarence and Margaret Anspach; and sister-in-law Dorea Norris.
The family would like to thank all of those who supported Susan, prayed for her, and provided tender, loving care throughout this difficult journey. A Celebration of Susan’s life will be held on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Ono United Methodist Church at 6:00 pm with a time of fellowship and remembrance immediately following the service. All who were enriched by Susan’s life of compassion and vitality are invited to attend.
