Obituary of Susan Sprague On Friday, April 13th, 2018, Susan Jeanne Sprague, wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend passed away at the age of 53 after a long courageous battle with breast cancer. Susan will be forever remembered by her loving family. She was born on April 16th, 1964 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, New York.

A native of Haverstraw, NY, Susan moved north with her mother and brother and in 1975 settled in Wurtsboro, NY. Susan was a graduate of Monticello High School, Orange County Community College, and attended Pace University before her eyes were stricken with Macular Degeneration. Susan spent twenty years working in Administration for the Supervisor in the Town of Mamakating.

She was very hard working, dedicated, smart and efficient at her job. She was a member of the Mamakating Lioness Club, Our Lady of Assumption Church (including Religion teacher), as well as a dedicated PTA parent and team mom for Little League and Boy Scouts. Susan loved to travel, shop, dance, listen to music and spend time with her family.

Susan married Charles Sprague on January 17th, 1997. She is survived by Charles and their dedicated, loving son, Christopher D. Sprague; her dedicated, loving mother, Barbara A. Ceriale and her husband, Susan’s step father, Albert Ceriale; brother, J. Christopher Haera, his wife, Heather J. Haera, their children, Susan’s god children, Anthony C. Haera and Jenni H. Haera and by her brother, Brad D. Ceriale. In addition, she is survived by her father, Frank J. Haera, his wife, Wendy Haera and sister, Jenna Haera.

Other survivors include step brother, Michael Ceriale, his partner Robin and their daughter, Amber Ceriale. Susan is also survived by step sons, Ryan Sprague and Brandon Sprague, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and life long friends. Susan was predeceased by her grandparents, Irene Rizzo Bednar, Louis J. Picariello Sr., Frank J. Haera and Josephine Haera.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17th at Van Inwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home at 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of Susan at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 18th at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church at 17 High Street in Bloomingburg, NY with Fr. Anthony Trung Nguyen, O.Carm officiating.

Burial will follow at the Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to a charity that supports breast cancer research.
