Augusta, GA – Thelma McKinley Hinson, age 86, wife of 60 years to the late William D. Hinson, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, January 28, 2019. She was born to the late James Noel McKinley and Pearlie Faircloth McKinley on January 21, 1933. Including her husband, she is preceded in death by their sons, Robert David Hinson and William Mark Hinson, her sisters, Neva McKinley Veal, Lucille McKinley Watson, Ethel McKinley Foster and Arita McKinley Carter; brothers, Loyd McKinley, Olen McKinley, Roy McKinley, Etheridge McKinley, Thurman McKinley, Hollis McKinley and an infant brother.

Survivors include her daughter, Donna Hinson Murray (Todd Fulmer) of Augusta, Georgia and her grandson, Robert Cameron Murray of Hoboken, New Jersey. She was blessed to be loved and in touch with so many of her extended family, especially her in-laws, nieces and nephews, and many friends and neighbors as close as family. She was the youngest of twelve children and grew up on the family farm in Pitts, Georgia.

She graduated from Pitts High School in May of 1950 and worked briefly in Miami, Fl and Macon, GA before returning home to work at the Cordele Casualwear, sewing jackets and coats. She and Bill were married on December 18, 1955 and made Augusta their home. Her primary occupation was that of homemaker but she enjoyed working as a Recreation Leader at Gracewood State School and Hospital for 10 years.

She was a lifelong Baptist and member of Curtis Baptist Church. The kitchen was the heart of her home and she enjoyed cooking and baking for others, sometimes in a competitive spirit. Her other passions included gardening and growing flowers, sewing and recording and recounting family history.

She took particular pride in sharing practical information and giving advice. She looked forward to yearly vacations spent with family and friends on Jekyll Island. She was a true nurturer at heart, freely giving of her time and talents, caregiver to countless loved ones.

She was deeply devoted to her family. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 1, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Dr. Ron Hinson officiating. Burial will be on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 3:00 P.M. at Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Pitts, GA with Rev.

Larry Wilbanks officiating. Memorial Contributions may be made to Union Baptist Church, 4267 Cemetery Road, Pitts, GA 31072. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and following the service in the Garden Lobby at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Rd.
