Thomas Charles Joiner, age 57 of Grand Haven, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2019 on his 57th Birthday after a seven year courageous battle with cancer. He was born on February 2, 1962 in Milwaukee, WI to Thomas E. and Janice K (Tousignant) Joiner. Tom married Deborah Lynn Rogers-Eichenberg on January 29, 2019 in Muskegon, MI.

He was a life-long resident of the Tri-cities area. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School, was an alter boy and participated in cub scouts and boy scouts. He graduated from Spring Lake High School in 1980.

Tom was the owner and operator of Grand Haven Auto Wash and Pennzoil Quick Change Artists. He began working there in 10th grade, at the age of 16, and purchased the business at age 21. Tom was a member of the Grand Haven Eagles Aerie #925 in Grand Haven, the Grand Haven Elks Lodge #25, and the American Legion, Charles A. Conklin Post #28, Grand Haven.

Tom made lifelong friends from all walks of life, with everyone he met. He established the Monday night social hour at the pole barn. Tuesday’s he enjoyed “Tuesdays With Tom” with family and friends at Stan’s and Elks Lodge.

He loved meeting family and friends at Fricano’s Pizza any day of the week. He was well known at NaTahKa Bar in Irons. In the winter, Tom would escape to Pine Island, FL.

His passion was deer hunting throughout the country, fishing, and spending time at the family cabin up north in Freesoil. Tom will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife, Debbie Joiner; mother, Janice Joiner; father, Tom (Janet) Joiner; sisters, Jacki Joiner, Joni (Scott) Westfield, Jennifer (Kurt) Klaassen; step-sister, Kim Nagy; step-brother, Dr. Frank (Janine) Nagy; nieces and nephews, Cody (Aly) Vela and their son Cailen Thomas, Khailey Joiner, Jordan Klaassen, Lauren Klaassen, Colton Whipple, Kathryn Carlisle, David Carlisle, and Alexia and Julianna Nagy. Also surviving are aunts and uncles, Chuck (Linda) Smith, Joan Hibbard, Hal (Julie) Hansen; step-daughter, Kirsten Eichenberg; step-sons, Kirk (Brandi) Ringler and Kristopher (Michelle) Eichenberg; grandchildren, Oaklee, Kash and Brinlee Eichenberg; and his special K9 companion friend, BUD.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; and aunt and uncles, Greg (Sandy) Hansen, Chuck Joiner, and Larry Tousignant. Friends may meet the family from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at Klaassen Family Funeral Home. (Per the family’s wishes please come casual.

) A private family service will take place Monday and a celebration of Tom’s life this summer in Freesoil, MI. Memorial contributions may be given to Sandra J. Schulze – Hope Lodge, 411 2nd Street, Rochester, MN or Pound Buddies Animal Shelter & Adoption Center. Tom’s family would like to thank The Mayo Clinic for seven years of exceptional care that he received.
