Thomas E. “Tom” Harmsen, age 47, passed away very suddenly at his home on Tuesday, February 12, 2019. He was born December 13, 1971 in Muskegon to Edward H. and Carol M. (May) Harmsen and lived in the area all of his life. Tom was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during the Persian Gulf War.

He earned his Associate Degree from Muskegon Community College and Master Molder Certificate. Tom worked at CG Plastics in Comstock Park and was currently employed the past 5 years as a plastics supervisor for Fleet Engineers. On August 24, 2015, he married the former Renee E. Morin in Muskegon.

Tom was an avid athlete and loved MSU sports, especially football. He enjoyed watching his boys play baseball and this year was proud to be coaching them in basketball for Mona Shores Schools. Tom and Renee played slow pitch softball at Softball World, ran many 5K races and also enjoyed riding their Harley Davidson Motorcycles together.

He will be greatly missed. SURVIVORS include his wife, Renee Harmsen; 2 sons, Logan and Brendon Harmsen; his parents, Edward and Carol Harmsen; 4 step-children, Lauren (Daniel) Jordan, James, Gregory and Stephen Burnett; 3 step-grandchildren, Aubrey, Carter and Evelyn Jordan; 1 sister, Dana Abernethy; 1 nephew and 2 nieces, Caleb, Lydia and Jo Anna Abernethy. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Chris Abernethy and his in-laws, Donald and Elizabeth Morin.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Monday, February 18, 2019 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100 with Rev. John H. Brown officiating. Military Honors will be offered by the Muskegon County Council of Veterans and the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.

VISITATION will be held one hour prior to the service, 10-11 AM Monday. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be directed to the American Heart Association or the Chron’s and Colitis Foundation. Sign the guestbook online at www.
