Thomas Henry Hawes, 83, of Bar Harbor, formerly of Portland, passed away May 5, 2018. He was born July 11, 1934 in Augusta. Thomas graduated from high school before serving our country as a member of the U.S. Army.

He worked for Humpty Dumpty Potato Chips for over 25 years before working full time for the family antique businesses, Hawes Antiques and Port Harbor Antiques. He worked security at the Portland Jet Port and for Hannaford in Westbrook for over 10 years. He was immensely proud to own property and pay his taxes in Portland for over 50 years and worked constantly throughout his life to maintain a home for his family in the city where he raised his children.

He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses for over 15 years, which brought him great peace and faith in his later life. Thomas is survived by his son, Howard Hawes of South Portland; daughter, Margie Hawes Morrison and her husband, Keith of China, ME; sister, Betty; and grandchildren, Anastasia Hawes-Watson and Brady Morrison. He will be greatly missed for his truly awe-inspiring spirit and sense of humor that thrilled and infuriated all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, May 11, 2018 at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Ave. , Portland.
