Obituary for Thomas N. Fagan Thomas Nelson Fagan, age 100, an 86 year resident of Lowell, MA and currently of Estero, FL, passed away peacefully after a very brief illness on April 23, 2018 at North Collier Hospital in Naples, FL. Tom was the husband of the late Helen T (WASSELL) Fagan. He was born March 21, 1918 in Lowell, MA a son of the late Thomas M and Harriet (Davidson) Fagan.
Tom received his education at the Sacred Heart School, Keith Academy and Lowell High School and was a communicant of the Sacred Heart Church until he relocated to Florida in 2004. Tom was a World War II US Army veteran and served in the 573 F.A. in the battle of Luzon, in the Philippines, where he also helped prepare the first Japanese POWs to be sent to USA. Tom worked for Russell Lumber Company before entering the U.S.Postal Service where he worked as a Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor until retirement.
Tom was a member of the American Legion 247, The VFW Post 662 and the Ancient Order of Hibernians 19. Tom’s life in Florida was filled with excitement as he took up golf at age 92 and at 94 had his first hole in one and then at 97 scored a second hole in one! !
He made many friends along the way and was recently honored by over 70 people at his 100th birthday celebration where he danced with family and friends. Tom’s spirit was strong and his legacy great and he was adored by all that new him. His famous saying these last few years was “One day at a time!
” Tom is survived by His sons, Thomas Fagan and his wife Anne from Worcester, MA, and Robert Fagan and his wife Dotti from Estero, FL, along with four grandsons, Kirk Fagan (Wife Holly) from Estero FL, Brett Fagan (wife Kathleen) from Merrimack, NH, Michael Fagan (wife Jennifer) from Fort Myers, FL, Matthew Fagan of Raleigh, NC, along with 9 great grandchildren, Stone Fagan, Jackson Fagan, Bowden Fagan, Paris Thompson, Spencer Thompson, Matheson Fagan and Callan Fagan all of FL and Erin and Emily Fagan of Merrimack, NH. Tom is also survived by the last of the 9 Fagan siblings James Fagan of Lowell, MA. Tom was the oldest brother of the late Claire Devine, Mary Fawcett, Marion Belair, Jean Mara, Francis Brown, Phyllis Wheaton and William Fagan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Margaret’s Church, 374 Stevens Street, Lowell, MA on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Tewksbury, MA.
