Thomas “Tom” Fairbanks, “Miskwaanakwad (Red Cloud)”, member of The White Earth Nation, 62, of Cass Lake, MN started his journey, Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the White Earth Family Office (formerly Cass Lake American Legion) with Rev. George Ross officiating.

A wake will begin at 5:00 p.m., Friday, September 7, 2018 at the White Earth Family Office (formerly Cass Lake American Legion). Arrangements were entrusted to the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bemidji. Thomas Maxim Fairbanks was born November 6, 1955 in Cass Lake, MN to Herman and Nancy (Leith) Fairbanks.

Tom in his younger days played the drums in the band ‘Running Wild’. Later was a tree trimmer before joining the U.S. Navy in 1978. Tom retired in 1998.

After retirement he managed the cooking at the Northern Lights Casino, drove bus for Cass Lake Head Start and then cooked for the IHS in Cass Lake. Tom married Margaret Clark in Minneapolis, January 10, 1981. They have four sons, Melvin Anthony (Shira), Joseph (Rachel), Kyle (Olive) and Thomas Jr. Seven grandchildren, Feather, Anthony, Reese, Jace, Noah, Thomas III (Niswi) and Logan; mother, Nancy Fairbanks and brother Devery Fairbanks and Guy (Barb) Fairbanks.

Tom enjoyed all sports, especially watching the Minnesota Vikings and Twins, bowling and playing cards. He loved traveling, music, family cookouts and spending time with all of his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Fairbanks and sister, Tamara Fairbanks.
