Helmuth William (Bill) Krone was born October 14, 1923 in Claire City (Roberts County), South Dakota, to William and Helena (Tesch) Krone. Bill was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Claire City. Bill attended a Marshall County Public School in the country.

Bill served in the Navy during World War II on the USS PCS1461 Battleship. Bill was in four major battles including Saipan, Okinawa and Iwo Jima, Japan. In fact, Bill was a witness to the American Flag being raised atop Mount Suribachi during the battle of Iwo Jima.

Bill married Rhoda (Tudy) Goette on August 14, 1948 in Brown’s Valley, Minnesota. They moved to South St. Paul, Minnesota where Bill drove a gas truck for Gustafson Oil Company. Later he owned and operated a DX gas station in West St. Paul.

In 1961, they moved to Mankato, Minnesota where Bill and his brother Conrad owned the Club Royal. They eventually sold the Club Royal; however, Bill continued to work there. In 1979, they retired and moved to North Long Lake near Brainerd, Minnesota.

Bill worked part time for Taylor Rental fixing small motors. He was the handyman for the neighborhood (fixing lawn mowers, chain saws, snowmobiles, etc. ).

He also graded the road. Bill loved to hunt, fish, play cards, snowmobile, bowl (even bowling a 300 game once), tell stories and enjoy the occasional kanuper now & then. Bill is survived by his sister Dorla (Ralph) Ohlmeier in Centennial, Colorado, sister-in-law Erma Pursh in South St. Paul, Minnesota, many nieces (Betty Krone) and nephews, special friends Wendy Tambra-Topp & Barb Flalguard.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, step father (Arthur Kaatz), two sisters (Myrtle and Edna), three brothers (Fred, Conrad and Arthur). God bless the memory of Bill Krone.
