Duane “Butch” Rohde, 76, of Bemidji, MN died Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Havenwood Care Center, Bemidji. Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji with Pastor Mark Kindem officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Duane Arnold Rohde was born January 13, 1942 in New Ulm to Arnold and Elsie (Lienig) Rohde. He grew up and attended school in Morgan. Duane married Marlys Liebl October 14, 1961 in Wabasso and they moved to Wabasso in the fall of 1962 residing there with their 3 children.

They moved to Bemidji in April of 1977 and built a 5 bedroom house together by hand. Duane “Butch” was employed at Walman Optical for 27 years, retiring in 2004. He also farmed, had cattle and kept the neighborhood plowed out in the winter.

Butch enjoyed helping the neighbors with any project they needed help with, as he was a great handyman and loved working with tools. He is survived by his wife, Marlys Rohde of Bemidji; daughters, Dawn (Mark) Cook of Bemidji and Julie Jo Rohde of Maui, Hawaii; son, Joel (Polly) Rohde of Solway; 4 grandchildren, Cody, Keri Ann, Kiana and Zachery plus 4 great-grandchildren, Olivia, Amelia, Emma and Adeline. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Elsie Rohde.
