Thomas J. Bowe passed away on September 9, 2018 at home in Surfside Beach SC. The son of the late Thomas Michael and Maude Ann Bowe, he was born on April 8, 1933 in Cornwall NY. Tom spent his childhood in Newburgh, graduating from Newburgh Free Academy in 1950.

As an avid athlete spending hours at the Newburgh YMCA, he participated in every sport, excelling at basketball and hockey. Tom played Shortstop for Newburgh Fast Pitch Softball and was later inducted into the Newburgh Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame. Early on Tom was employed by Stanwick Winding and Shapiro Distributors in Newburgh before being hired by IBM Corporation in 1954.

Tom married Mary V. Lease in 1957 at Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh and in 1960 moved to New Windsor NY. And just like that Tom and his family became part of the “Mark Street” gang! Tom continued his love of sports by playing golf and floor hockey every week and enjoyed skiing and ice skating with his children every winter.

Summer was reserved for vacations, swimming and barbecuing with family and friends. As an umpire for the Town of New Windsor Little League for many years, Tom was well known and respected by the baseball players in the community. Making memories with his “forever friends” from Newburgh and New Windsor was what Tom liked to do!

Tom retired from IBM in 1991 with 37 years of service as a Procurement Manager. After retiring Tom kept busy playing sports and worked at Fracasse Mechnical and Coloni Funeral Home in Newburgh. In 1995 Tom and Mary moved to Surfside Beach SC to escape the cold and enjoy golf.

Tom was a member of the Southwood Architectural Committee and Neighborhood Night Watch. Between golf games he managed to squeeze in a part-time job as a starter and ranger at Indian Wells and Wicked Stick. Retirement years with his friends in the Myrtle Beach area were spectacular.

Tom loved his family and friends. He is forever loved and will be missed by the family, friends and the communities he leaves behind. Tom was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Maude Bowe and son, Christopher M. Bowe.

Also predeceased by brothers-in-law: Dominick Lease, Leonard Lease, Anthony Lease, sisters-in-law: Stella Lease and Gloria Lease, uncles: William Bowe, Edward Bowe and Charles McGrath, aunts: Gladys Bowe and Mildred Lynn, and cousin, Robert Lynn. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Mary Bowe, daughter Lisa and husband, Joseph Ricci of Wallkill NY, son Michael and partner Barry Opdyke of Palm Desert CA, son Thomas and wife, Michelle of Newburgh NY; and beloved grandchildren Kaila Bowe, Reese Bowe and Logan Bowe. Tom is also survived by: Patricia Lease sister-in-law of Cedar Park TX, Patrick Lease brother-in-law of Madeira Beach FL, and many nieces and nephews in NY, CT, GA, IA, NC and TX.

Memorial visitation for family and friends will take place, Monday, September 24, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at White, Venuto & Morrill Funeral and Cremation Service, 188 North Plank Rd. , (Route 32) Town of Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10 am, Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Sacred Heart Church, 25 South Robinson Ave.
