Thompson P. Gross, 92, of York, died peacefully, Friday, January 11, 2019. Born in Norristown on June 3, 1926, he was the son of the late Raymond Ray and D. Carlyn (Peeling) Gross. Thompson was the loving husband of the late Doris (Dodd) Gross; she died November 15, 2008.

Thompson graduated from the New York Military Academy, attending on a music scholarship for the saxophone. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Army during World War II. He was stationed in Nuremberg, Germany during the military tribunals held following the war.

While in the service, he continued playing his sax in the NCO Club. Following his service, Thompson graduated from Lafayette College. Thompson was the head chemist at Borg-Warner, which later became York International.

He was an avid golfer and bowler. He enjoyed skiing and was one of the original season pass holders at Ski Roundtop. Thompson enjoyed the companionship of his pet parakeets.

He also enjoyed swimming, camping, music, and even started playing his sax again later in life. Thompson’s main love in life was his family, and he cherished his time with them. Thompson is survived by his children, Carlyn Bowman of Ephrata, Thompson Dodd Gross and his wife, Jennifer of Windsor, and Anne Marie Mansberger and her husband, Roger of York Haven; his granddaughter, Jessica Morris of Philadelphia; his step-grandchildren, Misty Bowman, Devon Mansberger, and Mason Mansberger; and his step-great-grandchildren, Katie, Joanna, Grace, Grant, and Adelynn.

A graveside service with Military Honors by the York County Veterans Honor Guard will be held on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in Prospect Hill Cemetery, 700 North George Street, York, PA 17404. Please gather at the Pennsylvania Ave. entrance to Prospect Hill by 1:45 p.m. Following the graveside service, there will be a time of refreshment and continued remembrance at the family home.
