OBITUARY Timothy S. Delehaunty November 14, 1968 – November 14, 2018 Timothy Sean Delehaunty, dynamic leader and Head of the Tower School, passed away suddenly at home on November 14, 2018, on his 50th birthday. Tim was born at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA, and grew up in Auburn and Worcester, MA. He graduated from Worcester Academy, and earned a B.A. in history from the College of the Holy Cross and an M.A. in English from the Bread Loaf School of English, Middlebury College.

His career in education began at the Rectory School in Pomfret, CT, and continued at Chestnut Hill Academy in Philadelphia, PA, and Lawrence Academy in Groton, MA. In 2008, he became Head of Upper School at New Canaan Country School in CT, where his colleagues said he led with grace, calm, and a deep emotional intelligence, always focusing on kindness and character. His commitment to education continued in July 2017 when he began his tenure as Head of Tower School in Marblehead, where he has been recognized for his vision, leadership, and dedication to the community.

Tim was a devoted athlete throughout his life––he played basketball, ran track, and completed ten marathons, and there was rarely a day when he didn’t run or ride his bike. He and his son Ian avidly followed baseball, European soccer, and professional and college basketball. Tim was also a wonderful fiction writer who published several short stories and loved to edit his children’s essays.

Tim is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years Theresa Delehaunty; his children Shea and Ian Delehaunty; his sister Elisabeth Delehaunty and her husband Peter Clary; his parents James and Katherine Delehaunty; his grandmother Mary Delehaunty; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Visiting hours are at Eustis & Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm St, Marblehead, MA, on Monday, November 19 from 4-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Avenue, Marblehead, MA, on Tuesday, November 20 at 11AM.
