Verde Pollock Williams known to most as “Ace”, passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 of natural causes in Ogden, Utah. He was surrounded by his beloved family. He was 87 years old.

Earlier that day he said that “today was a good day”. Ace was born in Cedar City, Utah on August 11, 1931 to his parents Wells and Ethna Williams. He grew up in Kanarraville, Utah with his family.

He spent the summers on the Horse Ranch that towered above the town on Kanarra (Kolob) Mountain. He loved riding horses, tending sheep, pretending that rocks were cars, and getting into trouble with his brothers. He joined the Army and served during the Korean Conflict.

He was stationed in England and was able to attend the coronation of the queen, although there is no photographic evidence despite 10 rolls of film being taken. He couldn’t explain why the pictures didn’t turn out, but he was certain him and his buddy, “Tex” had a great time. Ace was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

He taught his children the Gospel of Jesus Christ both in word and deed. He left a legacy of compassion and service to others, always putting others needs above his own throughout his life. He married his first wife, Mona Milne, in 1955 and was later divorced.

They had two sons Kyle and Kelton. In 1966 he met his “Little Woman” Maydell. He tried to kiss her, she told him off, he kissed her anyway and told her he didn’t give a damn.

They married in 1967. Maydell had three children: Darlene, Kevin, and Debbie, from a previous marriage, which Ace adopted. They had three more children: Shanea, Kade, and Savannah.

All together they raised eight kids. Ace worked in construction and had a successful career in truck driving. He worked for Milne, IML, and retired from Yellow Freight.

Ace’s pride and joy came from his family. It delighted him to give those he loved special nicknames. In his retired years he spent many days minding and taking care of his grandchildren.

Grandpa made each of his grandkids feel like they were the most special person to him. He loved going camping in his trailer, going for walks in the park, having family dinner, watching football, and being ruthless in water fights. He was always wearing a wool Pendleton shirt and Levi’s Jeans.

He was a selfless man that gave all that he had to give. He was always sneaking his kids a $20 bill from his stash in his wallet. Each of his kids knew that they were his “favorite”.

He spread love and joy to everyone he met with his quirky jokes and sincere heart. Ace is survived by his wife and sweetheart Maydell. His children: Kyle Williams (Jan), Kelly Williams (Karen), Kevin Williams, Debbie Saladino, Shanea Graham (Tim), Kade Williams (Jill), and Savannah Cantwell (Brad).

His siblings: Lauralie Williams (Terry), and David Williams (Carolyn). He was preceded in death by his daughter Darlene Seegmiller, his father Wells Williams, his mother Ethna Williams, his siblings Barbara Williams, Beverly Pollock, Rowan Williams, Gary Williams, VRand Williams, and Rose Marie Durrant. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Adamswood 5th Ward Chapel at 1589 E. Gentile St., Layton, UT 84040.

Friends may visit with family on Monday, January 28, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah. and Tuesday, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
