Obituary for Vernita Luckey Steger Vernita Luckey Steger August 4, 1936 – October 1, 2018 Vernita Luckey Steger, born August 4, 1936, passed from this life at her Douglassville TX home, October 1, 2018. She was 82 years old. Vernita is preceded in death by her husband Augustus Steger, Jr; parents Oscar and Maxine Luckey; son Barree Steger; daughters Carolyn Washington and Kimberly Blaylock; brothers Marvin, Oscar JR, and Theotis Luckey; and sister Clara Oliver.

She is survived by her son John Steger and wife Sharon of Douglassville TX; daughter Antonia Gaston and husband Roderick of Marietta TX; brothers Willie Luckey and wife Velva Lee of Marietta TX, and Whalen Luckey and wife Linda of Marietta TX; sister Callie Washington of Arlington TX; nine grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren. Vernita enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune. She lifed to cook, read the newspaper, and she loved all of her offspring and family.

Services for Mrs. Steger will be under the direction of Queen City Funeral Home. A visitation in her honor will be held at Queen City Funeral Home, Friday, October 12, 2018 beginning at 5:00 PM and ending at 7:00 PM. Her funeral services will be held the following morning, Saturday, Oct 13, 2018, beginning at 11:00 AM in Douglassville TX at Gum Springs CME, Elder Diana Casteel, presiding.
