Obituary for Victor Leo “The Grizz” Reid II On Wednesday, October 3, 2018, Victor Leo “The Grizz” Reid II. , loving husband and father of 3 passed away at the age of 82. Victor was born on April 30, 1936 to Victor and Genevieve Reid in Detroit, Michigan.
After losing his Father at age 12 Victor began to cultivate and grow the strong character and patriarchal traits he is well known for today. He learned quickly to be independent, reful and self-reliant. He always paid his own way and refused charity.
He worked for Father Coughlin at the Shrine of the Little Flower Church to pay his way through parochial school and helped his Mom raise his younger sister, Judith. At age 16 he met the love of his life, Loretta Jane, at the Clawson 4th of July, fireworks display in 1952 and married her on September 4, 1954. They raised two daughters, Pamela and Cheryl, and one son, Victor III.
He and Loretta share 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. “The Grizz” was a man with a devoted passion for his family, which extended to friends, and would drop everything to rescue and help anyone in need. Absolutely the best advice, because he lived through it all.
He didn’t mince words but was direct and to the point. A lifetime of skills and professions. An Army Veteran, Royal Oak Police Officer, Owner of Roll Form and Tool Design and Engineering company, Gun Shop owner, Landlord.
A man who lived a very full and gratifying life included his hobby of collecting vintage cars and motorcycles, military guns and memorabilia. He restored, bought, traded, and sold hundreds throughout his lifetime! He was also able to travel to beautiful places in the world including the Holy Lands and Rome, Europe, China and throughout the United States.
He is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Loretta, daughters Pamela Reid-Williams (Jeffrey Williams) and Cheryl (Brian) Southern, and son Victor III, grandchildren Andrew (Jacqueline) Southern, Jeffrey (Jessica) Williams, Melissa (Brenden) Harper, Victor IV, great-grandchildren Ava, Christian, Julianna, Harrison, Adeline, Guy, and Pearl.
