Viola Minderhout, 91, passed away June 8, 2018 after a short illness at Harbour Health, South Port Square, in Port Charlotte, FL. she was the daughter of Ralph and Hattie Schut, born April 20, 1927 in Hudsonville, MI. She graduated from Hudsonville High School in 1944 and worked for Corduroy Tire Co. for many years.

She then began work in the Insurance Department of General Motors, retiring after 40 years. Viola married Jay Minderhout in 1982 and they spent many happy years together traveling the world until his passing in 1998. She and Jay loved traveling and playing golf on the many courses; her favorite was in Ireland.

She was an avid billiards player and was top of her team. Viola loved skiing in Canada, watching the Tigers play baseball, and playing classical music on the piano; her favorite piece was “Russell of Spring”. She loved poetry and could recite many poems from memory.

Viola will be greatly missed by her sister, Ruth Nederveld of Port Charlotte, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Gerrit, John, Harold, Jim, and Ray Schut, and Ted Baker; and sister, Evelyn Mulder. Memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Assn.
