Obituary for Virgie Matthews Virgie Matthews, 81, of Festus, Missouri died Monday, September 24, 2018 at Mercy Hospital St. Louis. She was born October 19, 1936 in Advance, Missouri to Lloyd and Maude Hitt Brown. She and Boyd Matthews were married July 26, 1974 at Saint Louis, Missouri.

She worked at a National Supermarket for 20 years and retired from them in 1985. She was proud of her time affiliated with local 655. She was a tremendous cook and enjoyed by all.

She was an avid gardener and loved flowers. Survivors include her husband, Boyd Matthews of Festus, Missouri; one son, Arvil Matthews of Imperial, Missouri; five daughters, Julie Christiansen of Marthasville, Missouri, Jean Wood of Cahokia, Illinois, Nancy Davis of Florissant, Missouri, Donna Scheu of Arizona and Misty Melton of Cedar Hill, Missouri; one sister, Bonnie Stroup of Arab, Missouri; one brother, Robert Brown of Miner, Missouri; five grandchildren and eight step grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren and fourteen step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son.

Visitation will be 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, September 28, 2018 at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Ford & Sons Mt.

Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial will be at Morgan Memorial Park Cemetery in Advance.
