Vivian Dicken Hale, 98, left this life Wednesday, March 27, 2019. Born August 15, 1920 on the family farm in Campbell County, she was sixth of seven children born to the late Arvil and Lulu Diesel Dicken. Having graduated from then Eastern Kentucky State Teachers’ College, she taught in Northern Kentucky and Fayette County when she married William Edward Hale, who predeceased her.
They were the parents of William Edward Hale II and Dr. John Patrick Hale, both deceased. She is survived by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of Northern Ohio. For twenty years she lived at Kings Daughters Apartments, Frankfort, after moving from the family farm.
Her homemaking skills were of an accomplished seamstress and cook. Cherished are many memories of homemade bread and pies and other goodies shared from her kitchen and beautiful tailoring and sewing from her hands. She passed on many skills as a 4-H teacher and a mentor, counselor, and confidante to family and friends.
Her final resting place will be next to her husband at Mt. Gilead Cemetery at Carthage Methodist Church, her childhood church in Campbell County. There she was a pillar member.
Later she became a member of Frankfort First Methodist Church, where she was the “little lady wearing a hat” and loving the music and the people. Thanks to her Frankfort caregiver, Linda Updike, and to Taylor Manor in Versailles, she received much TLC in her last years. Funeral service will be Saturday, April 6 at 1 p.m., the Reverend Jackson Brewer, an old friend, officiating.
Visitation will be an hour before the service time, from noon until 1 p.m., both at First Methodist Church, Frankfort. Interment will follow at Mt. Gilead Cemetery, Campbell County.
Donations may be made in her name to Carthage United Methodist Church, 3427 Carthage Road, California, KY 41007. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Vivian Dicken Hale please visit our Sympathy Store.
