Wade Edward Kanney, 100, of La Porte, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019 at Miller Health and Rehab. Wade was born on July 23, 1918 in La Porte, IN, to Vincent A. and Helen C. (Wade) Kanney. Surviving are many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jack R. and Vincent R. Kanney; and sister, Helen B. Funk. Wade served in the US Navy 99th Battalion during WWII. In 1949, he graduated from Notre Dame with a Bachelors Degree in Science and Commerce and then attended the University of Oklahoma where he obtained a Masters Degree.

Wade was a retired from Porter County Library in Valparaiso where he was a public librarian. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Wade enjoyed mass, daily prayer time, reading the newspaper, crossword puzzles, yard work, taking walks and food, especially his sweets.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Ian Williams officiating. Burial and Full Military Honors will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery. A time of visitation will be from 9:30 – 10:30 am on Thursday at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
