Wallace A. Boyance Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 11:00 A. M. at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 732 N. Union Street, Opelousas, for Wallace A. Boyance, 94, who entered eternal rest on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home in Jennings, LA. Visiting hours will be observed from 7:00 AM to 10:45 AM Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Williams Funeral Home. On November 22, 1924, Wallace Antoine Boyance, I, was born in Opelousas, LA to the late Frank Boyance, Sr. and Roselau Hebert.

He had three (3) brothers – Earl, Ernest, and Frank Boyance, Jr; two sisters (2) – Helen Boyance Giron and Rita Boyance Young. On February 2, 1946, Wallace married Felicia Algerea’ from New Orleans. To that union, they had four (4) children – Adrian Boyance Reid, Wallace Antoine Boyance, II, Sylvia Mary Boyance and Gerald Boyance.

Wallace attended Holy Ghost Catholic School then transferred to St. Landry Parish High School in 1938 to 1943. He then left Opelousas to take a training course in welding and took a government assignment to the Richmond Shipyards to build Liberty ships for overseas shipments. He eventually transferred to the US Naval Supply Center in Oakland, California as a civil service worker.

In 1950 he joined the National Guard and was activated the same year to serve in the Korean War. He served 21 months stateside as a training unit in 90mm guns that were used in Korea for artillery. Because of this he received a Certificate of Service from the late Governor of California and former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Earl Warren.

Later he left active duty to return to a civil service job where he retired with 33 years of service to the government, including 21 months of active duty. In 1953, he was recruited into the American Legion by one of his comrades that worked on the same base. In 1983, I moved to Paso Robles, California, and transferred my membership with the American Legion to Post 50 there.

Some of the positions he held were as follows: 1192/93 Post 50 Post Commander 1993/94 Post 50 Post Commander 1994 Past Commander’s Club 1995 Member 40 & 8 2003 16th District Second Vice Commander 2004 16th District First Vice Commander 2005 16th District Commander 1995 Member 40 & 8 2003 16th District Second Vice Commander 2004 16th District First Vice Commander 2005 16th District Commander Wallace was in the American Legion for over 58 years until he went to the post everlasting. Wallace leaves to mourn his four (4) children – Adrian, Wallace, II, Sylvia and Gerard and a host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank, Sr., and Roselau; all of his siblings, Earl, Ernest, Frank, Helen, and Rita.
