Walter M. “Sheik” DeCara, 93 of Shalersville, passed away on Monday January 7, 2019 at his daughters home with his family by his side. He was born May 3, 1925 in Grindstone, PA. to the late Joseph and Mary (Dorulla) DeCara.

Sheik as he was known to many family and friends has lived in Shalersville since 1972 and retired from SPS Technologies in Cleveland. He was a US Navy veteran serving in WW II , a member of the Mantua American Legion and was a member of the Boys Town Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded on death by his wife seven years ago to the date Esther C. DeCara on January 7, 2012, his son Thomas DeCara in 1989 and siblings, Frank DeCara, Mary Gallagher, Edward DeCara and John DeCara.

Survivors include his children Robert (Gretchen) DeCara, Gary (Linda) DeCara, Deborah (Robert) Puckett, Nancy (Vern) Baker, Timothy (Marilyn) DeCara, his grandchildren Robert, Jackie, Michelle, Lisa, Corissa, Arika, Jeffery, Adrienne, Amanda, Matthew and his great grandchildren Jacob, Kayla, Sophia, Lauren and Laurel. Calling hours will be on Thursday January 10, 2018 at the Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Homes Streetsboro Chapel from 2-4 Pm and from 6PM until time of funeral services at 7:30 PM. Private family burial services will be in Riverside Cemetery Shalersville, Ohio.
