Walter Horst, age 82 of Crestview passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 in Highland, Utah. He was born on February 24, 1936, in Jersey City, New Jersey to George and Anna Horst. Walter served his country in the United States Air Force and retired after 28 years as Senior Master Sergeant.

Walter achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant but decided to retire to which his commanding officer said, “You made Chief – tell your grandchildren you made Chief”. He retired, again, after 10 years in Saudi Arabia working for McDonnell-Douglas. Walter loved to work and worked till age 80.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Walter loved his family and his fellow man. He was always looking for ways to help and serve others his entire life.

Walter volunteered as a Scout Master for over 45 years and received the Gulf Coast Council highest distinguished service award – The Silver Beaver. Walter enjoyed bowling and antique cars. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1st wife Clara Horst and 2nd wife Glenda Horst and a sister Irene Dietzel.

Survivors include his children: Gregory Horst and wife Patty, Rick Horst and wife Cynthia, Kelly Sue Hardy and husband Scott; step-daughters: Trallis Smith and Taris Kennedy; sisters: Dorothy Pasznik and Lillian Dubiel. Also surviving are his 19 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. The celebration of Walter’s life will be on Friday, October 12, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Crestview Ward with Military Funeral Honors burial to follow in the Liveoak Park Memorial Cemetery.
