Walter J. Huryn September 16, 1926 – April 26, 2018 Walter J. Huryn, 91, Trail Creek, Indiana, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 12:40 pm in his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, April 30, 2018 at Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, 606 S. Woodland Ave. , Michigan City, IN with Rev.

Kevin Huber officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery with full military services conducted by the American Legion Skwiat Post 451 and the V.F.W. 2536. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm, Sunday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN and from 9:15 am – 10:00 am Monday at Queen of All Saints Catholic Church.

He was born September 16, 1926 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Frank and Catherine (Jankowski) Huryn, Sr. On June 5, 1948 in Michigan City, Indiana he married Dolores Osterwald who survives in Trail Creek, IN. Also surviving are two daughters, Kathleen (Scott) Ebert and Mary (Anthony) DiPaolo, both of Michigan City, Indiana; three grandchildren, Brian (Samantha) DiPaolo of Long Grove, Illinois, Sarah (Jason) Gorfine of Bainbridge Island, Washington and Heather (Todd) Luers of Cedar Lake, Indiana; and nine great-grandchildren, Mary Cate DiPaolo, Dominic DiPaolo, Sophie DiPaolo, Margaret DiPaolo, Beatrice Gorfine, Benjamin Gorfine, Trenten Luers, Kylee Luers and Josephine Luers. He was also preceded in death by five sisters, Mamie Goede, Gertrude Barth, Bernice Wojciechowski, Lena Glover and Margaret Biederstaedt; and five brothers, Clem Huryn, Floyd Huryn, John Huryn, Edward Huryn and Frank Huryn, Jr. Walt was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Queen of all Saints Catholic Church, American Legion Skwiat Post 451, F.O. P. Dunes Lodge #75, St. Joseph Young Men’s Society and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II.

He retired from the Indiana State Prison as a construction foreman, then worked for 13 years with the Michigan City Post Office as custodian and grounds keeper where he received numerous awards and thank-you’s from the community for his outstanding contributions for beautification of the Michigan City Post Office grounds with his expertise of flowering and gardening.
