William James Thompson April 14, 1948 – May 28, 2018 William James Thompson, 70, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Monday, May 28, 2018 at 6:15 am in his home. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm, Friday, June 1, 2018 at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana. Visitation hours will be Friday from 1:00 pm till the time of service in the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel.

Full military honors will take place Friday in the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel. Bill was born April 14, 1948 in Belfast, Ireland to the late John and Margaret “Peggy” (French) Thompson. On October 8, 1994 in Michigan City, Indiana he married Lucy Childers, who survives in Michigan City, Indiana.

Also surviving are two sons, Chad (Hollie) Thompson of Gatesville, Texas and Ian (Tammy) Thompson of Babson Park, Florida; two daughters, Tammy Utpatel of Michigan City, Indiana and Carla (Brian) Goede of Valparaiso, Indiana; twelve grandchildren, Wayne, Nick, Britney, Tori, Jessica, Connor, Alex, Erynn, Will, Ryan, Paige and Jaymie, along with seven great-grandchildren, Kayden, Kyleigh, Kenzie, Nathan, Carter, Cilas, Lukas and one to be named soon; two sisters, Isabelle (Jim) Grzesk of La Porte, Indiana and Laurine (Larry) Clemons of Michigan City, Indiana. He was the former co-owner of Midwest Custom Finishing, Michigan City, Indiana. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and racing his 1967 Chevy Chevelle at Osceola Dragway.

He also was a US Army veteran having served in Vietnam.
