Walter J. Wheeler, 83, of Baldwinsville, passed away Wednesday at Crouse Hospital. He was born in Syracuse to the late Leonard and Irene (Francher) Wheeler in 1935. He graduated from Solvay High School in 1954, served in the Air National Guard and was a US Air Force Veteran, serving during the Berlin Crisis from 1961-62.

He was a foreman at Carrier Corp/UTC, employed for over 35 years before retiring in 1992. Walt was a lifelong communicant of St. Cecilia Church and was a member of the Geddes Veterans, Solvay Tigers AC, Solvay Hilltop Club and the Tyrol Club of Solvay. He is survived by his son; Scott D. Wheeler, of Solvay, daughter; Dianne M. McLean, of Baldwinsville, 4 grandchildren; Joshua D. Wheeler, Marissa C. McLean, Nicholas D. (Meagan) Wheeler and Christopher D. Wheeler, great-granddaughter; Callie A. Wheeler, longtime companion; Regina Cole and many cousins.

Funeral services will be held 8:45 am Tuesday at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME and 9:30 am at St. Cecilia Church, Solvay, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Onondaga County Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 pm Monday at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME, 2601 Milton Avenue.
