Obituary for Mr. Waverly Johnson Waverly Johnson was born on July 10, 1927, to Willie and Lula Bell Johnson in Calvert, Texas. He attended grade school but due to the economy he had to work the cotton fields. In 1940 his family moved to Tipton, OK, and in 1948 he united in marriage to Pauline Stevenson on Juneteenth.

To this union, five children were born: three sons and two daughters, the he moved his family to Duncan, OK, in 1950. He joined St. Stephens church where he was a faithful member. He accepted his calling to sing at a young age and was God’s Man Servant via his Anointed Voice.

He began singing in a capella gospel quartets while travelling and singing with the Traveling Sons and also sang solo for various churches, while driving diesel trucks to provide for his family. He began driving huge 18-wheeler trucks in 1959 and received numerous awards for his impeccable work ethic and dedication. He retired from Donco Carriers at age 70.

He was preceded in death by both parents, Willie and Lula Bell Johnson as well as his brother Willie Jr., his sister Lucy, his step-brother Wiley Little and step-father Joe Little. He leaves to cherish his loving memory: Wife, Pauline Johnson; five children: William (Zaquelyn) Johnson of Arlington, TX; Marcus Johnson of Oklahoma City; Donna (JJ) Dorn of Duncan, OK; Paula Lewis of Redondo Beach, CA; and Steven Johnson of Duncan, OK; 10 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Waverly’s personality was openly friends – he met NO strangers; he would talk to a Tree.

He was a tough and disciplined man but inside he was a big ole teddy bear. He loved his wife and family through thick and thin and to the end. He is well loved and will be missed by all!
