E. Wayne Warthen, 76, of Emmitsburg, MD died Friday, April 20, 2018 surrounded by his loving family at the Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster following a brief illness. He was the son of the late Joseph R. and Grace G. Warthen. Wayne was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Emmitsburg.

He enjoyed playing cards, playing golf and watching old western movies, especially John Wayne films. He was an avid fan of the Baltimore Colts and pulled for the Ravens in recent years. Most of all, he loved spending time with his wife and family.

Surviving are his loving wife, Kathleen (Kathie) Lankford Warthen; his children, Michele Miller and husband John of Thurmont, Steve Warthen and wife Sheila, Richie Warthen, and wife Kathy, and Brenda Miller and husband Ed, all of Fairfield, PA, and Ann Warthen of Emmitsburg; brothers, George Warthen and wife Sadie of Cape Coral, Florida, Pat Warthen and wife Margie and Bill Warthen and wife Junia, all of Emmitsburg; sister, Audrey Swomley and husband Kenny of Dillsburg, PA; sister-in-law, Patricia Warthen of Emmitsburg; brother-in-law, Sidney Sappington of Waynesboro, PA; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings, Bob Warthen, Vivian Warthen Pounds, Ann Warthen Brown, Louella Warthen Sappington and Joseph “Dudy” Warthen The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 24th at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 47 DePaul St., Emmitsburg, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will then be held at 11 a.m. with the Rev.

Charles F. Krieg, C.M. as celebrant. Burial will follow at New St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Wayne’s name may be made to Mission of Mercy, P.O. Box 102, Fairfield, PA 17320 or Carroll Hospice Dove House, 292 Stoner Ave.

, Westminster, MD 21157. Arrangements have been entrusted to Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Emmitsburg.
