William “Bill” Patrick Woods, Sr. 66, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at his home under the care of his son. Bill was born in Evansville, Indiana on September 1, 1952 to Joan (Caniff) Woods-Phelps and the late John Woods. He attended St. James Grade School and Rex Mundi High School in Evansville.

He married his high school sweetheart, Janet Hardesty in 1974. Bill and Janet were married for 44 years until she passed away in February 2018.

Together they had one son, William Patrick Woods Jr. After graduating from IU he worked for 84 Lumber and Kight Lumber prior to attending law school. Upon graduation, Bill became a partner at Woods & Woods, LLP working beside his beloved family. Bill was a member of the Evansville Bar Association, Evansville Bench and Bar Association, was a longtime member of the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association, and was a long time member and President of the Vanderburgh County Mental Health Association.

Bill enjoyed traveling with his family, his BMW motorcycles, spending time at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and canoeing with his brothers. He was an avid reader. Bill especially enjoyed spending time at the farm, which has been in the family since the Revolutionary War.

Bill is survived by his son, William Patrick Woods, Jr. (Rosanna Gonzeles) of Evansville, IN; mother, Joan (Caniff) Woods-Phelps of Evansville, IN; sisters, Beth Perney (Dave) of Bloomington, IN, Jenny Ellis (Joe) of Chandler, IN and Cindy Meeks (Dave) of Evansville, IN; brothers, Tom Woods (Connie) of Vincennes, IN, Rick Woods of Evansville, IN, Mike Woods (Annette) of Evansville, IN and Steve Woods (Margrite) of Evansville, IN; brother-in-law, Mike Hardesty; father-in-law, Marvin Hardesty; sister-in-law, Marti Dieg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Lynn (Hardesty) Woods in 2018; his father; grandparents, Pat and Maude Caniff and William McKee and Maryanna Enderline Woods; mother-in-law, Jean Hardesty; brother-in-laws, Steve Hardesty and Tom Hardesty. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at St. James Catholic Church, 12300 S. 50 W., Haubstadt, IN 47639 with Fr.

Kenneth Betz officiating. Burial will follow at Davidson Cemetery where Bill will be buried beside his wife. Friends may visit from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave.
