Obituary for William Edward Saucer William Edward Saucer was born November 19, 1926 in Henderson, Kentucky to Maggie Green and John Saucer. He graduated from Lincoln High School, then enlisted into the US Army where he was honorably discharged. He graduated from Evansville College (University of Evansville) where he was the first African American football player.

He earned a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Education. William and Irene wed on September 1, 1951 and celebrated 65 years of marriage. William began his teaching career at Lincoln School and retired from Thompkins Middle School.

He received numerous awards such as EVSC Middle School Teacher of the Year and the Sue Woodson Service Award. He served on the Human Relations Commission and other community organizations including Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated. William was also a 60 year member of the American Legion.

William was a member of Liberty Baptist Church for more than 50 years where he sang in the male chorus and served as a treasurer. He later joined Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church where he was a faithful church member and participant in the Rock of Ages Sunday School Class. William and Irene volunteered with the Boom Squad, Evansville Day School festivals, and Frog Follies for numerous years.

After retirement, William enjoyed attending activities at Carver Community Center and attending the Lincoln-Clark-Douglass Class Reunions. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maggie and John Saucer; wife, Irene; and siblings: Margaret Rowland, Thelma Rowland, Annamae Gaines, John Rowland, Gordon Saucer, Nettie Taylor, Dorothy First and Barbara (Babe) Packo. William is survived by two daughters: Anita Upchurch (special friend, Charlie Stroman) and Sharon Saucer-Brown (husband, Greg Brown) and four grandchildren: Laura Upchurch-Johnson (husband, Robert Johnson), William Saucer II, Loren Henderson and Destiny Williams.

He is also survived by nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Linda White Hospice Home. Services are Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 11:00am at Nazarene Baptist Church with visitation from 9:00am until service time.

Special Kappa Alpha Psi Memorial Ceremony will be held at 8:30am. Entombment at Oak Hill Mausoleum. R. Mason Brothers Memorial Chapel entrusted with arrangements.
