William’s Obituary William R (Bill) McLhinney, age 98, of Hermitage, PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 in Garden Way Place with his family by his side. Born August 15, 1920 in Canonsburg, PA, he was the son of the late William S. and Zeta Clyde McLhinney. He married the former Norma Jean Moore on November 23, 1949 and she preceded him in death on July 17, 2008.

Bill graduated from Canonsburg High School where he was an All-State Basketball Player and continued to excell on the court at Westminister College where he was a three year letterman. He went on to the University of Pittsburgh where he recieved his Masters in Education. He also served in Marines in WW II as a Staff Sargeant.

Bill began his teaching career at Pitcarin High School where he was also the head basketball coach. He then moved on to Trinity High School where he served in the same positions. Bill finished his teaching career at Sharon High School where he taught Health and Phyical Education for over thirty years.

Bill was a 32nd degree Mason with the Valley of Pittsburgh. He was inducted into the Washington – Green County chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame and was also a long time, active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church of Sharon. He is survived by one son Jeffrey W. McLhinney and his wife Deborah D. of Boardman Ohio, a brother James McLhinney of Baltimore Maryland, grandchildren David (Kristen) McLhinney of La Plata, Maryland, Julie (Brent) Whan of Poland, Ohio and Derek (Rebekah) McLhinney of Hubbard, Ohio.

Survivrd also by great-grandchildren Max and Grayson Poklemba and John, Jackson and Molly McLhinney. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Elsie McLhinney, Verna McKenery and Lena McClelland and a great-grandson Connor Jeffrey McLhinney. Viaitation will be held Saturday from 10:00 am untill the time of the service at 12:00 noon at the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home LLC, 264 E. State Street, Sharon, PA.

A funeral service will be held at the funeral at 12:00 pm withn the Rev. Rick Stauffer officiating. Burial will be in America’s Cemetery.
