William “Couch” Ray Davenport, 73, passed away Monday, April 30, 2018. He was born January 4, 1945 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Jack Edward Davenport and Genevieve Kennedy Davenport. Bill honorably served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War.

He earned an Associate Degree in Civil Engineering and went on to work for the NC DOT as a Highway Engineer for over 30 years. The family will receive relatives and friends Friday, May 4, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory, 944 Old Knight Rd. , Knightdale, 27545.

Surviving: son, Chad Davenport (Karen) of Cumming, GA; daughter, Ashley D. Leaver (Matt) of Fuquay-Varina; grandchildren: Jackson, Joseph, Lydia and James Davenport, Abby and Harley Leaver; brother, Rex Davenport of WI; sisters: Janet D. Miller and Jill D. Buchanan both of IN. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Judith “Judy” Yeargin Davenport and sister, Peggy D. Scott. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Association, 5510 Six Forks Road, Suite 107, Raleigh, NC 27609.
