Obituary of William Swanson William C. Swanson, 92, formerly of Lakewood, passed away Sunday December 30, 2018 at Fredonia Place. He was born August 5, 1926 in Jamestown the son of the late Carl O. and Marion Swanson. Bill was a 1944 graduate of Celoron High School.

From 1944 until 1946, he served in the United States Marine Corp in the South Pacific. For years, he worked in the automobile business at various dealerships, including Jones Motors, Ashville Auto, Burke Cadillac Oldsmobile which became Howlett Cadillac Oldsmobile, retiring as Vice President/General Manager after 26 years. Following retirement, he operated Go Tire Auto Sales for eight years.

Bill was a member of the Moose Lodge, Jamestown VFW, Lakewood Legion, and the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed fishing and golfing in retirement. Surviving are his wife Laura Carlson Swanson; a daughter, Sue (Bob) Johnson of Erie, PA; a son, Mark (Betsy) Swanson of Mayville, NY; four grandsons, Ryan (Farzanah) Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Jeff Swanson, Scott (Lindsay) Swanson; two great granddaughters, Claire and Charlotte Johnson.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his step father, Harry “Bud” Reusch, a sister Marjorie Gardner in 1952, and a brother Kelly Swanson in 2004. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Visitation will not be observed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chautauqua Blind Association, 510 West 5th Street, Jamestown, NY 14701.
