Obituary for Wils Davis III Wils Davis III, age 78, peacefully passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at home. He was born in Shelby, Mississippi in 1940 to Harriet and Wils Davis, Jr, the oldest of three children. They moved to Memphis in 1945.

Wils attended The University of Tennessee where he was an SAE, and graduated from Memphis State University, majoring in history. He married Barbara Mayer in 1961 and they had three children. In 1970, Wils formed his own medical supply company, Hospital Disposables, selling it in 1990 and retiring.

After Barbara’s death in 1999, Wils married Linda Cox in October, 2000. As a hobby and because of his love of music, Wils owned and operated two music venues/bars, Murphy’s and The Buccaneer, where he was affectionately known as “Dad” or “Pops” by many of his younger friends. Wils was fun-loving and enjoyed the company of family and friends.

He was also quick to lend a helping hand, and even open his home to those going through difficult times. He leaves behind his wife, Linda and four children: Deborah Davis Flettrich (Erik), Wils Davis IV, Ginger Davis Kirkpatrick, all of Memphis and Dr. Carolyn Atkinson (Andy) of Melbourne Beach, Florida. He was tremendously proud of his grandchildren: Wils Davis V, Sarah Davis McCollough (Blake), Erin Flettrich and Leah Flettrich.

Wils also had one great-granddaughter, Olivia Grace Davis. He leaves his two sisters, Harriet Anne Morris of Daytona Beach, FL and Kim Davis Petzinger (Mark) of Memphis, his sister-in-law and lifelong friend, Beverly Mayer Mankey and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
