Obituary of Winifred Moore Shay Winifred “Winnie” Moore Vorhies Butler Shay, 93, of Salisbury, died on Sunday, April 8, 2018 peacefully at Wicomico Nursing Home. Born on July 23, 1924 in Andover, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Theophilus and Mary Agnes Vorhies. Winnie graduated from Newton, NJ High School.

Following her graduation from high school, she attended Dover Business College in New Jersey. She was employed as a bank clerk for a number of years at Newton Trust Co., in Newton, NJ. In 1966 she moved to Avon Park, Fl upon her marriage to Donald J. Shay.

Winnie retired from the banking industry with her final employment at the Suntrust Bank in Avon Park after 16 years of service. After her retirement in 1988, she moved to Fruitland, MD where she has called her home for the last 30 years. Winnie was very active in her communities in both New Jersey, Florida, and Salisbury.

She was a member a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Avon, FL and a current member of St. Johns United Methodist Church in Fruitland. She was a former member of the Business Women’s Club in Avon Park and a member of the AARP in Salisbury. Winnie was also active in the 4-H leadership in Sus County, NJ for a number of years and hosted 2 cooking clubs.

During her 4-H career, she even held the position of secretary for the 4-h Extension office. . Winnie is survived by two granddaughters, Paula Bermudez of FL, and Stephanie Williams of GA; one grandson, David Power of Idaho and several great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her special friends Shirley and Bill Cropper and Dale and Amy Cropper and their children Sydney, Megan and Nicholas Cropper of Salisbury, MD. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, PFC. Clifford M. Butler in 1946, her second husband, Donald J. Shay in 1987, a granddaughter, Laurie West in 2004, a grandson Scott Power in 2017, a daughter, Sherry Santerre in 1996 and a special friend Elton Pusey in 2004.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 11:00 am at Holloway Funeral Home. A visitation will be held one half hour prior to the service. Interment will be private.
