Obituary of Katharine Hutchinson Katharine (Kay) Krell Hutchinson, 92, of Salisbury, passed away peacefully at home on June 16, 2018. She was born on October 20, 1925, to William Henry Krell and Katharine Smith Krell, in Chester, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Media High School in 1942 and Pennsylvania State University with a BA in Journalism in 1946.

She married Robert Hall Hutchinson on September 13, 1947. They were married for 69 happy years, and lived in Lancaster and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, before retiring to Chestertown, MD and then Salisbury. She enjoyed various jobs in journalism and public relations including the Chester Times, Ohio Valley Hospital, Kent and Queen Anne’s Hospital and Drayton Methodist Retreat.

Throughout her working life and after retiring to Maryland, she was an active volunteer for the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, the League of Women Voters, and her church altar guilds including St. Alban’s in Salisbury. She served on the Maryland Citizens Advisory Commission for Chemical Demilitarization. She loved traveling, sailing, gardening, playing bridge and knitting.

She was an avid genealogist, publishing several family histories. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2016, her parents, and an infant son, John Robert. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Bill (Barbara), Shippensburg, PA, Peter (Linda), Salisbury, MD, Judy (Brenda), Moline, IL, grandchildren Andrew, Phillip, Erin and Kyle, great grandchildren Duncan and Winnie, sister Julie (Bill) Entwisle, Stratford, NJ, and various beloved nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 28, 2018, at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 302 St. Alban’s Drive, Salisbury, MD 21804, with visitation an hour before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Alban’s or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home, P.A., 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, MD 21804.
