Funeral services for Young Hiram “Buddy” Thompson, Jr., age 91 will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 27, 2018 in the Chan Stanley Memorial Chapel of Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory. A private graveside service will follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev.

Earl Turner and Rev. Keith Smith will officiate. Mr. Thompson was born August 24, 1927 in Montrose, Georgia.

He graduated from Young Harris Academy where he played basketball, and went on to play basketball, baseball, and football at Middle Georgia.

At the Georgia Institute of Technology, he played basketball and was a star baseball pitcher. From Ga Tech, he was drafted by the Detroit Tigers Farm System where he played for the Thomasville Tigers. He served in the United States Navy and served multiple terms as Mayor of Montrose.

He was a Mason in the Cool Springs Masonic Lodge No. 185 for 66 years where he served as a Master Mason on numerous occasions. He was a retired manager for Merrill Lynch.

Mr. Thompson was an avid golfer, and fisherman, and enjoyed his post retirement job as a driver for The Cloister on Sea Island, but most of all, he loved his family and the Ga Tech Yellow Jackets. Mr. Thompson passed away Saturday, November 24, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his family. Mr. Thompson is survived by his 5 sons, Young H. “Ty” Thompson, III of Locust Grove, Robert E. “Tommy” Thompson of Dublin, Scott Patrick (Tristy) Thompson of Mint Hill, NC, Taylor Ashton Thompson of East Dublin, and Jeffrey Todd (Christa) Thompson, 4 daughters, Sarah Tracy Thompson Johnson of Newnan, Felicia Anne (Jeffrey) Aaron of East Dublin, Tara Keil (Earl) Turner of Dublin, and Tiffany Jo Thompson (Eric) Baggett of Dexter, a sister, Rhetta Thompson, a nephew, Barry (Cristle) Bray, 19 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Barry Bray, Chris Bray, Andrew Johnson, Joshua Turner, Corbin Turner, and Elijah Baggett. Honorary Pallbearers will be Avery Thompson, Blake Thompson, Young H. “Mickey” Thompson, IV, and Brandon Bailey. The family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. until 1:45 P.M. Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at the funeral home.

Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Dublin Chapel has charge of funeral arrangements.
